Autumn in Crested Butte
Five days: Sept. 23-28, 2006
$1,395 per person
A Leaf-Changing Experience
At the height of autumn, Colorado’s landscapes explode
with color. Emerald-green mountains transform into a chaotic
maze of golden quaking aspens. From changing aspens to jagged
peaks, glass-like lakes and decaying mines, our Autumn in
Crested Butte workshop will show you the skills for photographing
nature’s most predictable facet—change.
The
itinerary for our Crested Butte-based fall photography workshop
climbs three mountain passes past the world’s third-largest
living organism—a giant grove of aspens. Some of Colorado’s
quintessential landscapes are within walking distance of
the car, including the East River as it snakes and pools
along the road to Gothic. And time stands still for photographs
at eerie abandoned mine sites near Pitkin and Tin Cup.
Here’s a glimpse of what else you can expect during
Autumn in Crested Butte:
- A Study in Contrasts: In addition
to capturing the best of Colorado’s fall colors,
our workshop itinerary will contrast the photographically
challenging movements of Judd Falls with the Zen-like
stillness of the Castles geologic formation.
- The Photo of a Lifetime: Around Crested
Butte, the opportunities for capturing once-in-a-lifetime
images are the norm rather than the exception. Photograph
some of Colorado’s classic water features, such
as subalpine Lake Irwin as it mirrors a fire-orange sunrise
over the peaks of the Raggeds Wilderness.
- Discovering Yourself: During your free
time, explore the vintage architecture and mining relics
in Crested Butte’s National Historic District. Or
find new photographic vision in pastoral, sage-covered
hills; deep shadows of mountain canyons; and haunting
ghost-town leftovers.
